Questions about jewellery repairs?

Whether you are new to owning fine jewellery or have a trunk full of precious things, you might have some questions that you’re not sure are ‘normal’. We welcome you! We’ve heard it all. Take a look at some of our often-asked questions. For additional inquiries, please do not hesitate to call or email to speak with a JK Schmidt customer care representative.

Why does my white gold ring look yellowish?

White gold items are rhodium plated to make them reflect and shine like chrome. This playing wears off over time due to regular wear and any heat applied for sizing or repairs. Occasional rhodium playing is required to return the item back to that stunning white chrome finish. Stop by for a free estimate on your precious white gold item!

How often should I have my jewellery checked?

We recommend coming in twice a year for a free coffee and an examination of your lovely things! Because wouldn’t you rather catch a loose diamond or bent prong before it is lost? Your assessment and cleaning is always free when you’ve purchased your items at JK Schmidt Jewellers!

Is it OK to wear my gemstone rings every day?

We wouldn’t recommend it. Gemstones are not as hard as diamonds and therefore are more susceptible to scratches and breaking. Diamond engagement rings are typically made in heavier settings for everyday wear; gemstones are not. Save your gemstones for occasional wear; treat it as the treat of fine jewellery! Enjoy.
